Conscientious Landfill Sites

Edwards Waste Management do their utmost to ensure that the effect of landfill sites is minimal on the environment. Included in our standard practice:

  • Photo: Generator powered by collected methane
Methane produced from landfill sites is collected underground and used to generate clean electricity, preventing harmful gasses from escaping to the atmosphere. This electricity is then sold to the national grid.
  • All waste destined for landfill is composted first, reducing its mass by approximately 50%.
  • Photo: A former landfill site, restored as farmland
Once a landfill site is spent, it is re-covered with high quality soil created through composting of green waste - often superior to the original soil quality at the site. The landfill site is then used as farmland, with few visible signs that the landfill activity took place.
  • All materials extracted when preparing a landfill site are made use of, for example aggregate and clay are resold to the construction industry.
